Facebook has announced the launch of App Center, a centralized social app showroom for both Facebook (Web) apps and mobile apps for Android and iOS (iPhone/iPad). In addition to traditional approaches to surfacing apps to users such as “Top grossing” and “Trending”, App Center’s main value proposition would be its ability to help users discover apps through personalized recommendations, as well as apps that their friends are using.
For mobile apps, if they require downloads, the users would automatically be redirected to Apple App Store or Google Play. Users browsing from their PCs could also send the app to their mobile devices.
Facebook will be rolling out the App Center to its users over the coming weeks, starting with 6-8% of US users. Eventually, there will be plans to present different app centers for different regions.
