Newsflash: Flash Player 10.2 Will Be Available Via Android Market On Mar 18

Adobe has announced that Flash player 10.2 will be available for download via the Android Market on March 18. While a stable release for Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread), it will initially be released as a beta version on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablets. It also turned out that March 18 was chosen to coincide with the release of Android 3.0.1 update as Flash player 10.2 requires at least version 3.0.1 of the Android 3.0 platform.

This “pre-announcement” comes at a critical time for Motora Xoom, which is currently feeling the heat from the recent release of iPad2, and is banking on the availability of Flash as one key competitive advantage.

Newsflash: Adobe AIR 2.6 For Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) Tablets

Newsflash – Adobe has announced the release of Adobe AIR 2.6, which supports Android 3.0 (Honeycomb).

Adobe AIR is a virtual machine that allows you to write once – using HTML/Javascript/Flash – and run on any device with Adobe AIR Runtime installed, not unlike the Java platform.

Since Adobe AIR for Honeycomb is ready, I expect Adobe Flash to be available soon as well!

Galaxy Tab May Not Get Honeycomb (Android 3.0) Upgrade

Bobby Cha, managing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert had told PCMag that Android Honeycomb (Android 3.0) will require a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor to run properly. This implies that Samsung Galaxy Tab, which runs on single-core Cortex-A8 ARM processors, might not be upgradeable to Honeycomb.

However, according to MobileWhack, it has received news from an Android team member that this is false. But it could be that while there are no official min requirements, Enspert’s experience had shown that it’s not practical to build a Honeycomb tablet on single core processors.
